San Francisco fascinated me just as much as everything I visited and experienced in these weeks. Countless times photographed and yet it remains for each individual his very own and special picture of what he takes away from this masterpiece of bridge construction. Whether immortalized in the head, in the heart or with the camera.
For me, this sight remains an unforgettable one. My decision was to leave in the morning after breakfast and soak up the city, which had my full attention with its extraordinary flair, appeal and charm. I enjoyed being on foot to be able to see the local population better, but also the tourists from all over the world. Again and again I used one of the countless e-scooters / bikes, since I was always well packed in terms of my photo equipment, cameras, lenses and tripod. Especially since I was able to quickly get to certain places that would have taken a lot of time to walk.
Even if it was pure T-shirt and shorts weather during the day, one could assume that it was more than fresh in the evening, especially at the Golden Gate Bridge. The wind that found its way into the bay from the Pacific Ocean was still quite pleasant until the early evening hours. In the end, however, I stood there, wrapped up warm, including sturdy shoes and a winter hat, in contrast to some of the others who also took photos there, and visibly cold. It wasn’t long before I was there all alone.
We photographers usually stay longer in one place, waiting until the light seems right for us. After the golden hour comes the blue hour, and here too I especially waited for the bridge lights to turn on and, in conjunction with the ambient light, seem to be in tune. Even after the pictures I took, I could hardly tear myself away from the sight to start the drive back to the hotel. It was too special to just stand there and enjoy.
